Data & Resources

As the MPO, CMPDD collects various types of data related to our region’s roadway network and makes this data available to both our partners and the public.

The CMPDD Traffic Count Viewer is an online tool that provides convenient access to traffic volume data collected throughout the MPO region.  CMPDD and the Mississippi Department of Transportation coordinate to collect traffic‐count data across roadways within the MPO planning area. Data is gathered in a three-year cycle for Hinds, Madison and Rankin counties, with one county surveyed each year. Since data is only collected in one county each year, estimates are generated for the interim years. Traffic count data is collected over a 48-hour period and then adjusted using seasonal and daily variation factors to calculate Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) volumes for each traffic count location.

The CMPDD Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities Viewer is an online tool that details existing and planned bike and pedestrian facilities throughout the MPO planning area.  Proposed facilities are based on the MPO’s most recent Metropolitan Transportation Plan.

The CMPDD Functional Class Viewer is an online tool that shows how roadways are categorized based on the type of service they provide, with each classification defined by its role in meeting regional travel needs.  Following federal guidelines, roadways in the MPO planning area are classified into five types:  interstates, principal arterials, minor arterials, collectors, and local streets. Higher-level classifications support greater mobility and typically carry higher traffic volumes, while lower-level classifications focus on providing access to individual properties.

The CMPDD Transit Viewer is an online tool that displays all JTRAN routes.  JTRAN, operated by the City of Jackson, is the federally recognized public transit provider for the Jackson Urbanized Area offering both fixed-route bus service with designated pre-determined routes and schedules, and on-demand paratransit services for eligible passengers.  For addition information about JTRAN services, please visit ridejtran.com/

Federal performance measure regulations require each State Department of Transportation and MPO to establish performance targets to monitor progress being made to meet national performance goals.  This process helps guide informed decision-making by highlighting where efforts are succeeding and where more resources may need to be directed.  Performance measures focus on five key areas:  highway safety; pavement and bridge conditions; system performance; transit asset management; and transit safety.
