CMPDD is widely recognized for years of experience in redistricting and has acquired state-of-the-art software specifically for redistricting. The CMPDD, as a census data affiliate, has the official Census Redistricting Data Summary File for Mississippi. This census population data allows realignment of voting districts, taking into account population shifts and assuring equal representation for constituents in compliance with the “one-person, one-vote” principle of the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
CMPDD continues to work with its municipal and county governments in advising them of their need to redistrict to meet Justice Department guidelines. As requested by a county or a municipality, existing wards or districts will be mapped and analyzed to see if they meet the “one person, one vote” requirement. If they do not meet the requirements and the governmental entity wishes to proceed, the CMPDD will assist them in developing a new redistricting plan.
