Transit

The City of Jackson is the federally recognized public transit services provider in the Jackson Urbanized Area (JUA). The City makes these services available through its public transit program, JTRAN. The overall goal of JTRAN is to provide safe, secure, quality, courteous and efficient public transit services that meets the needs of current passengers and encourages additional ridership while complying with all local, state and federal requirements.

JTRAN currently provides two (2) types of public transit services. These services are fixed route and on-demand or paratransit.  The fixed route service is characterized by a web of pre-determined, marked routes throughout the City of Jackson. The historic Union Station is the hub for the fixed route system serving as the official transfer center for nine of ten fixed routes and also acts as a service center for passengers. Riders can purchase tickets, transfer from one bus to another and use the various facilities at Union Station.

The on-demand or paratransit service offers door-to-door, demand response transportation to eligible passengers.  This service is used to provide safe and efficient transportation within the city limits of Jackson, which includes a 3/4 mile corridor surrounding each JTRAN fixed bus route, to persons with disabilities who are “ADA paratransit eligible.”  Any person who has a temporary or permanent impairment preventing access to a fixed route bus stop may apply for HandiLift services.

The transit viewer, link at the bottom of this page, is an interactive tool developed by the Jackson MPO that can be used to view all JTRAN routes and stops. The viewer allows users to turn on and off selected bus routes within the JTRAN system and provides a listing of stops and their respective stop schedules along the selected route or routes.
