The Metropolitan Transportation Plan is a long-range planning document that acts as a comprehensive blueprint to guide future transportation investments in the region for the next 25-years. The plan identifies transportation needs, policies, strategies, and projects that aim to improve the quality of life for all residents in the region as part of the Jackson MPO’s continuing, comprehensive, and cooperative planning efforts. The Metropolitan Transportation Plan is updated every five (5) years to reflect new planning priorities and changing patterns in population and economic growth that may impact travel demand. The plan is developed as part of a coordinated process between the Jackson MPO, local communities, various local, state, and federal agencies, and the public in order to develop regional solutions to maintain, manage and improve the regional transportation network.
2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan
Efforts to develop the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan for the Jackson Urbanized Area are currently underway (2024-2025). MULTIPLAN 2050 is a coordinated effort to develop MDOT’s statewide long-range transportation plan and the plans for the MPO at CMPDD, the Hattiesburg-Petal-Forrest-Lamar MPO, and the Gulf Regional Planning Commission MPO. This coordinated effort is to ensure consistency regarding long-range planning throughout the state and you are invited to participate.
